Product Review | Tatcha Silk Canvas Protective Primer

Product Review | Tatcha Silk Canvas Protective Primer ($52, Sephora)

Product Details (from Sephora's website): This multitasking skin-protecting, makeup-perfecting primer is for face, eyes, and lips. Silk extracts feel nourishing on skin and diminish the look of pores, fines lines, and imperfections for the perfect canvas before makeup. Silk powder makes makeup glide on more evenly and last longer, minimizing excess shine with a soft focus finish. A protective layer derived from botanicals acts as a barrier between makeup and skin, helping to prevent clogged pores that can lead to breakouts. Anti-pollution natural active ingredients fight immediate attack from environmental stressors and help support the skin’s barrier function to act against future attack, visibly reducing the appearance of wrinkles and dullness. Pink and gold pearl helps even skin tone for a healthy look, and hadasei-3—a trinity of Japanese superfoods green tea, rice, and algae—visibly restores youthful radiance.

Review: Everyone and their mothers are talking about this primer.  Primers are hard to test on my skin because anything that has "blurring effects or pore reduction" are properties I cannot attest to due to having extremely small to almost invisible pores and no skin texture issues.  However, whenever I test primers, I test its longevity and if it makes my skin oily (I have normal to dry skin especially during the cooler months) enough to move the makeup around.

This primer is packaged in a very luxurious way, as most Tatcha products are.  The black box looks simple with its gold typography but the inside packaging comes with a pull out purple design and the actual primer container is packaged in a sealed silver bag.  It also comes with an iridescent disc that you can use to scoop out the product.  The container has a lot of weight to it, not some flimsy plastic.
It also contains 20g of product which is a good amount for its $52 price tag.

This primer has a balmy feel but not too emollient on the touch.  Some balm-like primers feel greasy.
I love how it feels when applied on the face.  I do circular motions with my fingers to get the product instead of using the disc provided.  Then I massage it on my cheek then spreading it all over the face. A little goes a long way.  This primer keeps my skin hydrated, soft and allows for a smooth application of liquid and powder products over it.  It does not sit on the skin and clog the pores.  It does not break me out or make my skin oily.  It keeps my makeup in place and extends its wear.  This is a great primer, however, it is expensive.  I picked this up during the Sephora VIB Appreciation Sale this summer so I had a 20% discount.  If you'd like to splurge, I say get this primer.  If you want a cheaper alternative, the NYX Soft Focus Primer is somewhat similar (not a dupe).
