Product Review | CHARLOTTE TILBURY Charlotte's Genius Under Eye & Face Magic Powder ($45, Sephora and Beautylish)
Product Details (from Sephora's website): This light-diffusing, loose powder helps mattify and smooth the appearance of the skin. It is made from an alternative ingredient to talc that absorbs excess oil from the skin creating a matte appearance. Bio-mimetic Silky Mica creates natural opacity with a brightening-radiant effect to instantly create a youthful look. The mica is treated with amino-acids that contribute to give a gorgeous silky skin-like, smooth, feel. Spherical Silica is a sebum absorber that mattifies and reduces shine. It reflects the light for a soft-focus effect. Tsubaki Oil is a traditional, nourishing Japanese oil with a silky, creamy texture which acts as a fast-absorbing moisturizer, nourishing and softening the skin, whilst promoting bounce in the skin. Squalane, a natural Olive Oil derivative, wonderfully moisturizing and a source of fatty acids and antioxidants that help to condition and soften the skin. Treated Pigments for adding a creaminess and added adhesion helping to achieve the perfect coverage.
Review: Charlotte Tilbury was one of the luxury brands I tried in 2018. I have their foundations, blushes and pressed powders - all have been impressive and beautiful on the skin. When I spotted the Magic Powder at Sephora, I did not hesitate picking it up. The packaging is in a classic Charlotte Tilbury design - a glossy finish dark brown box with rose gold typography. The container is made out of clear acrylic with a twist lock to dispense and lock the product, which is perfect for those who travel often. It has a dark brown twist off cap similar to its box and rose gold design. So far things were going great until I opened up the powder. It smelled so strong and it is not even a perfume type of scent. It does not have a good smell as if the product was expired. I understand that the smell is due to its natural ingredients, however, in my experience, it lingered for a long time. I am very sensitive to scents (I prefer all my face products fragrance-free) so this one was a no go for me.
It did notice the powder slightly breaking up underneath my eye area which does not happen with my Hourglass, Too Faced or DermaBlend powder. However, the powder is beautiful on the skin when used as an all over setting powder. It is very finely milled and it leaves a nice sheen on the skin. If you are not sensitive to strong scents, you will love this powder. If you have normal to dry skin, just know that this breaks up underneath the eye area (I have normal skin) so you may want to heavily prep your skin around the eye area if you will be using this as an under eye setting powder. I returned this powder to Sephora and definitely did not want to continue using it due to the smell.
