Product Review | E.L.F. Cosmetics Poreless Putty Primer ($8, E.L.F website, Target and Ulta)

Product Details (from E.L.F.'s website): This skin perfecting putty primer is infused with Squalane to help grip makeup for all-day wear and help protect the skin from moisture loss. The velvety texture glides effortlessly over the skin, smoothing over imperfections for a poreless effect.

Review:  Everyone and their mothers went crazy for the E.L.F. Poreless Putty Primer.  I purchased this with a bunch of products from Target at the end of December and finally tried it out on and off in January of this year.  I have so much mixed feelings about this product especially after being "named" as a dupe for the Tatcha Silk Canvas Primer, which I also own.  Let me just cut it short on that note, in my opinion, this is not a dupe of the primer mentioned above.  It is similar but definitely not something I would replace it with.

The packaging is typical of many E.L.F. products:  it comes in a black box with white typography and a cut out window where you can see and touch the outside of the product.  It is contained in a clear plastic tub with a black screw cap lid.  The product itself has a baby pink color but it does not leave a pink hue or cast on the skin.  The consistency is slightly thinner than the Tatch Silk Canvas Primer.  It has a hybrid silicone and moisturizer feeling on the skin which leaves the skin hydrated.

My issue with this primer is that it does not keep my makeup in place for some reason.  I apply it to the areas I typically use the Tatch Silk Canvas Primer for, but it does not work for me.  I find my foundation to be slipping or sliding in places it has never done before.  I have tried it with all of my foundations and I have gotten the same result all the time.  I really wanted to love this primer but not underneath my makeup.  I have enjoyed using this alone without makeup as a moisturizer and skincare product.  It is also the primer I use when I do photo swatches for the blog.  While I enjoy using this primer on its own, I will not repurchase it.  I know this primer worked for a lot of people so maybe it will work for you, just not for me.
